A spokesperson from the Kurunegala Teaching hospital noted that the constable from the Kurunegala police station who attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself in the head, is in a critical condition.

He further noted that the injured constable is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the hospital.

The constable who shot himself using his official firearm in the toilet of the police station has been identified as 52 year old Sisil Jayasundara who is a father of two and a resident of the Kumbukwewa area in Wellawa, Kurunegala.

The constable has been on duty for 12 hours from 6pm yesterday to 6am today.

Speaking to us, a spokesperson of the Kurunegala police station said that the officer in charge has assigned another duty to the constable when he was ready to leave after completing his shift.

It is reported that, thereafter an argument took place between the two resulting in the constable’s attempted suicide.

Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that investigations are underway to reveal the reason behind the attempted suicide of the constable.

A sergeant who was working at the Kurunegala police has shot himself on the head.

A police sergeant who was working at the Kurunegala police has been admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching hospital after shooting himself in the head with his official firearm.

The police media spokesperson noted that the sergeant has shot himself at around 8.15 in the morning at the toilet of the police station. He is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the Kurunegala Teaching hospital.
