Alpitiya seewali Vidyalaya teachers on sick leave
Teachers of Athkandura Seevali Vidyalaya in Elpitiya have reported sick leave in protest of transferring their colleague who has been charged for throwing away wheat-flour-based food brought to school by some students for their noon meal.
48 teachers are attached to this school where 1168 students are studying from Year One to Advanced Level classes.
Our correspondents said 46 teachers did not report for duty today, and consequently the function of the school was crippled today.
However the Vice Principal told our news team that the prefects have been assigned to keep students in their class rooms.
Meanwhile the principal of Raththota Dikkumbura Vidyalaya will be produced before the Matale District Court in connection with the incident in which a Year-10 student fell to death from a Mango tree last Saturday.
Kasun Buddhika, a resident of Ma Ussagolla at Dikkumbura in Matale was rushed to Raththota hospital after the incident and later he was transferred to Matale hospital for further treatment on last Friday.
However the student died during surgery at Matale hospital following day.
Meanwhile Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said statements have been obtained from over 20 persons with regard to this incident.
