Constable assaulted on the highway resigns.
The police constable who was assaulted in a rubber estate near the Southern Expressway at Bombuwala Dodamgoda in Kalutara submitted his letter of resignation to the IGP today.
Constable Suminda Saman told our news team that he decided to resign from police service due to the threats to his life.
A police constable was assaulted in a rubber estate near the Southern Expressway at Bombuwala Dodamgoda in Kalutara and his motor car was set ablaze on May 30th.
Charges were made against a group of four persons who arrived there by a double cab to assault the constable.
The assaulted constable had fined Deputy Minister Hemal Gunasekera’s driver on the Expressway on a previous day.
As the constable complained that he was scolded by the Deputy Minister for fining his driver, the deputy minister also responded to the constable’s complaint.
Later the incident took center stage after the constable’s faction, the deputy minister’s faction and outside factions expressed different views on the incident.
Our News team contacted Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana to comment on the incident.
He said police headquarters have not yet received such a letter.
He also said that the investigations over the assault on the constable would be concluded within the next two weeks.
