A person who had set himself alight near Bristol Street in Colombo Fort had succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson stated that the person had burns on nearly 98% of his body.
Our reporters at the scene of self immolation stated that the deceased had distributed a letter written by him before setting himself alight.
He was identified as Hapuarachchige Don Nimal Dayarathna, a 60 year old resident of Grandpass and had served as a seaman.

An individual has self-immolated at the Bristol Street in Colombo Fort, this afternoon.
Our reporter who went to the location said that the individual has distributed a letter he has written to those who were around, before he self-immolated.
According to the letter, the individual is Hapuarachchige Don Nimal Dayaratne, a sailor from the Tamilnadu area in Grandpass.
He was admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo by the police, following the incident.
When we made inquiries in this regard, the Director of the National Hospital Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that the individual is in a critical condition.
