A burst on an oil pipe line leading to Muthurajawala: says Petroleum unions.
Petroleum Unions stated that a pipeline of the buoy which carries oil from deep sea off Uswetakeiyawa to Muturajawela terminal burst this morning.
Petroleum Corporation Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Chief Secretary Ananda Palitha said the pipeline burst while oil was pumping from an oil tanker to the Muturajawela terminal.
An off-shore hose which pumped crude oil to Sapugaskanda Refinery experienced a burst 100 feet deep in the sea one and half months ago.
The hose was repaired, but later, it experienced another burst thereby forcing the Corporation to temporarily stop operations of Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery.
In this backdrop, Ananda Palitha pointed out that the Corporation will find it difficult to store even refined oil.
When our news team contacted Petroleum Corporation Managing Director Susantha de Silva to comment on the incident, he said that an incident has been reported to him.
