Four foreign nationals suspected of being members of the LTTE were arrested in an operation launched simultaneously around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police said the four suspects were believed to be senior members of the LTTE, involved in attacks in Sri Lanka, and planned to make Malaysia as their base of operation.

The first suspect is a card holder of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and is an expert in making explosives.

The second is suspected to have been involved in the attempted murder of former President of Sri Lanka, Chandirka Kumaratunga in 1999, involving a female suicide bomber of the LTTE.

Chief Inspector said the third suspect was abetted by a citizen of Sri Lanka, who was arrested by a Counter Terrorism Division on May 14, for plotting attacks on foreign consulates in Chennai and Bangalore, India.

The fourth suspect is believed to be involved in the collection and dissemination of information to the LTTE for the purpose of planning attacks.
