Indian media reported stated that the district administration has installed “India” board at the fifth islet in the south Palk Bay near the International Maritime Boundary Line as a sign of boundary demarcation of Indian waters to help Indian fishermen not to cross the IMBL.

A release from the Mandapam Station of Indian Coast Guard said following requests from the fishermen, funds were allocateds for installing the concrete slab board, measuring 3.9 metres by 2.5 meters.

India in Tamil, Hindi and English has been written prominently in red paint on the board for fishermen to sight the board from long distance and avoid crossing the IMBL.
