Disciplinary action against 150 students of Jayawardanapura University withdrawn; 10 page letter from Vice Chancellor

The Sri Jayawardanapura University administration has decided to suspend all disciplinary inquiries that were initiated against some students.

Accordingly class suspensions and cancelling of studentship had thus been withdrawn.

Discipline in Charge of the University Senior Lecturer Udaya Kumara Amarasinghe stated that this decision was taken considering several factors.

The Students Union of the Sri Jayawardanapura University commenced a protest 59 days against the cancellation of studentship of 40 students and clas suspensions on 180 others.

However, Chairman of the Union Sampath Wickremesinghe today stated that solutions were given for their issues.

A 10 page letter sent by the Vice Chancellor to the students, says that the administration including him took this decision as per the teachings of Buddhism which speaks of Anithya, Dukkha, Anaathma – which means non permanency and sorrow.

The letter commences with the heading that withdrawing the disciplinary action will be treated as a good deed.
