The Petroleum Corporation has informed the distributors to limit the sale of kerosene.
Petroleum Distributors Association President Kumara Rajapaksa told our news team the restriction of kerosene distribution will directly hit the low income groups as most of them heavily depend on kerosene.
The current price of a liter of kerosene is 120 rupees.
This incurs 20 rupees loss to the Petroleum Corporation.
Our news team tried to contact a senior Corporation official to comment on the decision to limit kerosene distribution but the attempt was futile as all of them were said to be in a meeting.
Meanwhile UNP Media Spokesman MP Gayantha Karunathilaka expressed views on the prevailing crisis at the petroleum Corporation during a media briefing held in Colombo this morning.
Two incidents of burst on pumping lines, one at the Colombo harbor and the other at the Muturajawela terminal were reported last week.
MP Gayantha Karunatilaka said that a shortage of furnace oil has been caused due to the Petroleum Corporation crisis.
