Court warning on Galagoda; Wataraka Vijitha thero released on bail.
The case filed by the Jathika Bala Sena Organization against Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera was taken up for hearing before Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today.
During the hearing, the Magistrate said all are equal before the law.
The case was filed against the BBS General Secretary for issuing statements that were sacrilegious to the holy Quran, storming a Jathika Bala Sena press conference at a hotel in Slave Island and for forcefully removing documents belonging to the Jathika Bala Sena organization.
Police informed the court that documents that were forcefully removed from the Jathika Bala Sena press conference belonged to Jathika Bala Sena Secretary Watareka Vijitha Thera.
Meanwhile lawyers appearing for the Jathika Bala Sena also informed the Court that Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera used obscene language to address the complainant’s counsels during a previous court day.
Later the Magistrate warned Gnanasara Thera not to repeat similar incidents, as the court would have to take stern action in the event a similar case is filed against him.
The Magistrate also stated that attorneys-at-law are members of the Court therefore they are permitted to appear for any party.
The case was fixed once again for the 1st of September.
Meanwhile Watareka Vijitha Thera was released on a cash bail of one hundred thousand rupees and two personal bails amounting to 50 thousand rupees each.
The Thera was given bail when he was produced again before Panadura Magistrate Ruchira Weliwatta this morning.
Watareka Vijitha Thera was found lying near Hirana Bridge on the 19th of last month and although the Thera complained that he was abducted, initial police investigations revealed that the Thera had inflicted injuries on himself.
Later police arrested the Thera and produced him before Courts for making a false complaint.
