The Sri Lankan fishermen Associations point out that the security forces have authority to arrest Tamil Nadu fishermen even they encroach Sri Lankan waters while flying white flags.
Tamil Nadu fishermen have decided to return their fishing licenses to the district officials on July 21st and venture into Sri Lankan waters by their boats with effect from the 26th.
Indian Media reported that Tamil Nadu fishermen would fly white flags on their boats and seek protection from Sri Lankan authorities.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha Jeyaram has already written several letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to take permanent action to prevent Sri Lankan security authorities arresting Tamil Nadu fishermen.
However Convener of the Indo Lanka Fishermen Convention S.P. Anthony Muttu said Indian fishermen have agreed in writing during the recent discussions between the two parties not to violate Sri Lankan maritime borders.
Meanwhile External Affairs Ministry stated that Minister G.L. Peries is scheduled to tour India next week and the fishermen issue will be discussed during his stay in New Delhi.
