The United Nation stated that it would study the new orders imposed on NGOs by Sri Lankan government.
UN Secretary General Ban-Ki-moon’s media spokesman Farhan Hak told the daily media briefing held at the UN Office in New York yesterday that a statement would be issued after studying the set of new orders.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association pointed out that the Defence Ministry decision to monitor media briefings, workshops, media training programs and media releases organized and issued by NGOs would disrupt the freedom of expression.
However Director of the National Defence and Urban Development Ministry Media Center Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told a media conference held in Colombo today the new recommendation has not slit the wings of NGOs.
He said that the NGOs have been advised to operate within the framework of existing laws in the country.
