Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that there is a suspicion about the Government taking action to abolish the currently implemented Seed Act No. 22 of 2003 and bring about a new Seed Act.
A discussion with regard to the problems that have cropped up in connection with the proposed draft Seed Act was held in parliament yesterday between the National Movement for Safeguarding Seed Rights, a group of Farmers’ Organization representatives and the Opposition Leader.
The Opposition Leader said so while expressing his views on this occasion.
The Agriculture Ministry has said that the new draft Seed Act was put forward aiming at safeguarding and monitoring of seed material quality, national seed industry development and national gene resource protection.
