The former deputy secretary and the media spokesperson of the Government Medical Officers Association Dr. Upul Gunasekera says that the GMOA should appoint an interim committee.
He expressed this view at a media briefing held at the OPA auditorium today.
A court order has been issued suspending the activities of the current GMOA office bearers.
A petition was filed by Dr. Niroshana Premaratne who was contesting for the chairmanship and 5 others requesting for the suspension of the election of members.
This order was given after another petition was filed stating that the suspension order for the previous petition was breached.
Dr. Upul Gunasekera who expressed his views at the media briefing today was elected in 2011 as the deputy secretary from the Specialist Dr. Anurudda Padeniya’s team.
However he stepped down due to various issues and did not contest for any position in 2012.
In 2013 he came forward for the secretary post in the association, contesting against Dr. Padeniya’s team. He also filed legal action stating that the election process is as unacceptable.
