Counterfeit note scam revealed from Dematagoda
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana says 5000 rupees counterfeit notes found in Dematagoda area could still be in circulation.
The Bambalapitiya police arrested a person and a 5000 rupees counterfeit note in his possession last Tuesday.
After questioning the suspect, police last Wednesday took into custody another 100 counterfeit notes of 5000 rupees and two suspects from a business institution in Kalubovila.
Police further questioned the two suspects and later arrested the mastermind of the racket and his assistant in Dematagoda yesterday.
Police also found the machine and printing papers that were used to produce fake notes.
The suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Number 5 court of Hulftsdorp today.
Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that Police have already found 203 numbers of fake 5000 rupees notes printed under 190 different serial numbers and different unit numbers.
Police media spokesperson also advised the General Public to be vigilant while handling 5000 rupee notes and inform the police about suspicious notes if any.
