Petroleum Trade Unions allege that due to the delay in payments a vessel carrying furnace oil has been anchored off Uswetakeiyaawa.

As a pipeline carrying oil from Colombo harbour to Sapugaskanda had burst around one and half months ago while another supplying oil to Muthurajawela had also burst.

Trade unions allege that these pipes were not repaired.

Therefore oil refining at Sapugaskanda is also at a standstill.

General Secretary of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya of the Petroleum Corporation Ananda Palitha stated that the delay in payments has resulted in having to pay late payment fees.
