Update : Over 1000 houses damaged due to strong winds Wind speed reduced.
The number of houses damaged due to strong winds in several areas in the island has risen to 1057.
A laborer at work in a farm at Wangiya Kumbura in Welimada died after a tree fell on him during strong winds.
Meanwhile Badulla District Disaster Management Centre stated, another three persons were injured after a tree branch fell on them at Uva Paranagama area.
National Disaster Management Centre Deputy Director Pradeep Kodipillai told our news team 736 persons from several parts of the country have been affected due to the winds.
Uva Provincial Education Director R.M.P. Rathnayake said 80 schools of Welimada and Haldummulla Education Circuits of the Badulla District were closed due to the prevailing inclement weather.
In addition, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri told our news team several schools in the districts and 244 houses in Walapane area were also damaged due to strong winds.
Meteorology Duty Meteorologist Channa Rodrigo said the strong winddy condition prevailing in the island will be eased out within the next 24 hours.

736 individuals affected due to strong winds 893 houses damaged
The meteorology department states that Strong windy condition over island will be reduced today.
However, fairly strong monsoonal winds up to 50 to 60 kilo meters per hour over the country, particularly in the central hills and adjacent sea areas will be continued further.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Duty meteorologist Channa Rodrigo stated that Showers may spread to the North-Western province too.
Meanwhile, Around 893 houses have been partially damaged as a result of the strong winds experienced in the Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Ratnapura and Hambanthota districts.
The Disaster Management centre stated that 736 persons were affected die to strong winds.
