Colombo National hospital minor staff strike continuous.
The hunger strike launched yesterday by 21 trade unions belonging to 27 grades including the minor staff of the National Hospital Colombo is still underway.
The strike was launched based on 5 demands including preparing salaries based on circular 6 of 2006.
T.H. Somaratne the convener of the allied trade union committee told us that if solutions are not provided to their problems, they will launch a protest opposite the Ministry of health tomorrow afternoon.
When we made inquiries in this regard, a spokesperson for the National Hospital said that the strike has not severely affected the daily activities of the hospital.
Meanwhile the paramedics are scheduled to launch a strike in all hospitals in Uva, sabagaramuwa, and north- western provinces from 8 am tomorrow, based on 6 demands including the practice of the promotion criteria.
Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today the chief secretary of the Paramedics Joint Trade Union Saman Jayasekera said that if a solution is not provided to their demands following the strike, they will spread their strike to Southern, central and western provinces as well from 8 am on Thursday.
