300 litres of nitric acid used for explosives apprehended
300 litres of Nitric Acid were apprehended in the Medawachchiya town when they were being transported in a container from Colombo to the North day-before-yesterday night.
The Medawachchiya police has decided to carry out a proper investigation as to whether the nitric acid containing poisonous chemical had been transported to the north to use it to commit a crime.
That is in accordance of the order of Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Nadikaa P. Piyaratne.
In addition about 1.2 million rupees worth stock of food and drinks including 50 bags of sugar, 100 bags of flour and 80 bags of poultry feed was found in the container.
While these items of food and drinks were also produced before the Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate, she ordered that they be destroyed.
The suspect apprehended along with the container was released on a financial bail.
