The Gampaha Magistrates Court yesterday ordered the elephant calf at the Sri Devramwehera in Pannipitiya to be handed over to the Wildlife Department.

Previously the calf was given to Venerable Kolonnawe Sri Sumangala Thera who was the Chief incumbent of the temple under a bond of 10 Million Rupees.

This calf was brought from Meerigama Kandalama Walawwa and handed over to the Thera through courts.

However, the Director General of Wildlife Protection had submitted an amendment paper to Gampaha High Court.

Following a court order, Western Province Assistant Director of Wildlife W A A D U Indrajith stated that the calf will be handed over to the Udawalawa elephant orphanage.
