UNP files a case challenging redistribution of seats in Monaragala & Badulla.-Video
The UNP filed a fundamental rights case at the Supreme Court today challenging the redistribution of Uva Provincial Council member seats among Moneragala and Badulla districts.
The petition filed by UNP MP Hareen Fernando named Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, the Attorney General and several others as respondents.
The petition has also requested the Supreme Court to issue an injunction on the nomination gazette paper.
With the date been announced to call for nominations for the Uva provincial council elections, the main political parties contesting for the elections have presented their nomination boards.
Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, John Seneviratne, A.H.M Fowzie and central province chief minister Sarath Ekanayake were named for the UPFA nomination committee, at the party’s Central Working committee meeting held recently.
The UPFA has also appointed an Election Operations committee headed by Minister Maithripala Sirisena.
Ministers Basil Rajapaksa and Dullas Alahapperuma have also been appointed as committee members.
