27000 kgs of turmeric imported under the guise of rice.

Two containers of dried turmeric pieces imported under the guise of rice were opened at the Orugodawatta Customs Clearing Unit today.

Customs Director Lesley Gamini stated there were 10 thousand kilograms of rice and 27 thousand kilogram of dried turmeric worth 10 million rupees were found in the two containers.

A Pettah trader has brought the two containers from Tutocorin Port last 14th and he has paid duty over 200 thousand rupees.
