The severe drought season has affected the lives of the communities in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Moneragala, Hambantota, Vavuniya and Mulativ districts.

According to the Met department, these areas have not received rains since the first week of May.

Due to this reason the residents of these areas are facing a critical issue of finding drinking water.

The residents also told our news team that their crops have been destroyed due to the drought.

According to the Irrigation Department, the water level of 72 large scale reservoirs have receded lower than 20 percent.

The Director General of the Irrigation Department Bhadra Kamaladasa stated that 250 small scale reservoirs have been dried out.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board stated that they have already handed over several water bowsers in their possession to the relevant District Secretaries, to supply drinking water to the residents of the affected areas.
