Nominations must be handed over without distrusting A/Level examination-Video
The Election Commissioner has instructed political party general secretaries to educate their contestants to behave lawfully during the handing over of nominations for the Uva Provincial Council election.
The Commissioner has especially reminded that nomination should be handed over in a peaceful manner as the GCE A/Level examination begins on August 5th.
The main political parties are expected to hand over nominations of their candidates on the 5th and 6th of August.
The Election Commissioner received complaints against certain candidates who held illegal campaign parades after handing over nominations for previous provincial council elections.
Addressing a meeting held today with the party general secretaries at the Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya, Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya said those who do not possess a valid ID could obtain a special ID before the 6th of September.
After the meeting with the Election Commissioner, UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha said the Election Commissioner requested them to educate the candidates on handing over nominations peacefully.
Meanwhile UNP requested the Election Commissioner to introduce a program to enable postal voters to cast their vote at a polling booth.
UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayake further explained his party request.
