A road named after veteran song writer, journalist and presenter Premakirthi de Alwis, was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today.

The road was named by the Colombo Municipal Council to mark the 25th death anniversary of Premakirthi de Alwis.

Accordingly the road opposite the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation was renamed with the intervention of the President, which came as a response to a request made by the Premakirthi de Alwis Memorial Foundation.

A group including family members of Premakirthi and artistes were present at the occasion.

The Presidential Media Unit says that a memoir named “Premakirthi” was also presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by Nirmala de Alwis.
