Cabinet Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated the President did not participate in the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games due to security reasons.

He said although the President had planned to participate in the ceremony, the decision was changed later after several lapses in security beefing were reported.

Addressing the media briefing to inform the Cabinet decisions held today at the Media Ministry, Minister Rambukwella said the incapability to provide satisfactory security for the President in his capacity as the head of CHOGM is regretted.

Meanwhile Journalists questioned the Minister about the decision of government coalition NFF to go alone in the Uva Provincial Council election.

At this moment a journalist asked whether Minister Weerawansa is playing a role for the government.
