The suspects who abducted the Meegalawa 4 year child have revealed that they initially planned to abduct the father.

A senior official of the CID who was involved in the operation of locating the child who was abducted from Meegalewa area stated that a phone call given to one of the suspects involved aided in arresting the suspects.

The 4 year old child, Dinidu Yashen Ekanayake who was kidnapped from the Hunupolagama area in Meegalewa in Galgamuwa was rescued by the Police last night in Abogama area in Galgamuwa. 4 suspects were also arrested.

Meegalewa child's father speaks

A media briefing was held short while ago at the Police Headquarters regarding the arrest of the suspects who kidnapped the Meegalewa child.

The father of the child who was kidnapped, Mahinda Kumara Ekanayake expressed his views regarding how the police acted to save his child.

“On the 31st night Police arrived and recorded information from us till next morning. They left saying they will return our child. 12 hours later I received a message from the police, saying that they have found our child and they are bringing him to me. Another 12 hours later we got our child back. I was attempting to save my child in return for money. However, thanks to the detective officers I was able to save my child without trouble. My money was spared. The deities of the police did this. I thank the President, IGP and everyone who supported me during the critical time.”

Child abductors of Meegalewa were trapped through a phone call from a woman

A senior official of the CID who was involved in the operation of locating the child who was abducted from Meegalewa area stated that a phone call given to one of the suspects involved aided in arresting the suspects.

The 4 year old child, Dinidu Yashen Ekanayake who was kidnapped from the Hunupolagama area in Meegalewa in Galgamuwa was rescued by the Police last night in Abogama area in Galgamuwa.

4 suspects were also arrested.

Initially a ransom of 10 million Rupees was demanded but it was later reduced to 3.5 Million as the CID gradually got involved in the episode.

CID officials had stated that they needed to make sure that the child was safe.

Accordingly the suspects had stated that a necklace of the child was kept near a statue in Ehatu-wewa.

Officers who went to the area observed that it was indeed that of the missing child and ascertained that the child was safe.

Meanwhile, the Officers have investigated the phone calls received by a phone number which belongs to the suspects through which they had contacted relatives of the child.

While tracing the calls, the officers found out that a certain phone call was made by a woman to a suspect.

The police took the woman into custody for questioning after they found out that she has a relationship with a suspect.

A senior detective officer told our news team that the CID was able to uncover further details about the suspects.

The relevant child and his parents have been taken to the CID by now.

Police media spokesman has convened a media briefing this noon to elaborate on the details of how the child was discovered.

Child abducted from Galgamuwa found: 10 Million ransom demand reduced to 3.5 Million: 4 suspects arrested

The 4 year old child, Dinidu Yashen Ekanayake who was kidnapped from the Hunupolagama area in Meegalewa in Galgamuwa was rescued by the Police last night in Abogama area in Galgamuwa.

Four masked men who rode motor cycles abducted the boy around 7.45pm on Monday.

They had also caused injuries to the father of the child who is the owner of a rice mill and also his sister.

The CID took on the investigations in to the incident.

Police Media Spokesperson also stated that the child and the mother are under the protection of the CID.

As a responsible media institution we reported news pertaining to the incident only as per the advice of the Police.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana thanked media institutions who reported responsibly while expressed dissatisfaction who acted irresponsibly.
