Officials reports on the drought are false; allegations from Minister Maithreepala
Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says that the reports compiled by government officials regarding the relief provided to those affected by the drought cannot be accepted.
Speaking at a meeting held in Polonnaruwa, the Minister stated that people in several areas were seen to be suffering from the drought.
Around 1 million 150 thousand persons have been affected by the drought which is prevalent in 14 districts in the island.
Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Moneragala, Ampara, Hambantota, Puttalam, Trincomalee, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi are the districts that have been affected.
Residents of these areas stated that they are facing severe difficulties in obtaining drinking water.
