Fire in Hambantota reserve destroys 50 acres

Due to a fire which erupted at a forest reserve in Gonadeniya, Weeraketiya, Hambantota last noon has destroyed more than 50 acres of land.

According to our correspondent, the fire which blazed till mid night has been doused with the help of army officers and residents of the area.

The fire has spread due to the prevailing dry weather condition.

Meanwhile, a fire has erupted in a land which belongs to the coconut cultivation board in Pasikuda coastal area, Kalkuda police division, Batticaloa last night.

The fire in Pasikuda has destroyed over 10 acres of coconut cultivation.
