Top excise official remanded until the 12th for accepting bribes.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya remanded today head of the Special Investigative Unit of Excise Department Rosman Fernando on bribery allegations until 12th of this month.
The Commission to investigate bribery or corruption arrested Rosman Fernando yesterday on the allegation that he obtained a bribe of 500 thousand rupees from an illegal brewer in Kalutara area.
Along with the suspect, the cash obtained by him on the bribe has also been produced before the court today.
Our correspondent stated a large number of excise officers were present at the Chief Magistrate Court premises this morning.
Meanwhile the case filed by Bar Association President Attorney-at-law Upul Jayasuriya complaining a group of persons following his whereabouts was also taken before Colombo Magistrate Court today.
Although summons had been issued on Western Provincial DIG Anura Senanayake, Colombo Central SSP Palitha Siriwardana and Colombo Crimes Division Director SP Roshan Silva appeared before the court on behalf of DIG Anura Senanayake.
SSP Palitha Siriwardana informed the court that DIG Anura Senanayake was unable to appear before the court as he is participating in an official tour of Pakistan.
