Elephant calf sent to Ath Athuru sewana from Dewram Vehera also falls sick.
It is reported to our news team that the elephant calf of Pannipitiya Sri Devram Vehera which was sent to Uda Walawa elephant orphanage has also fallen sick.
Similar to the other elephant calf which died at the Uda Walawa elephant orphanage recently, this elephant calf is also held at the same center on a court order.
The elephant calf was brought to Uda Walawa while it was held captive near a house in Gannoruwa in Peradeniya.
The Wildlife official found this sick elephant while it was held captive in Kandalama Walawwa in Mirigama.
After Kolonnawe Sri Sumangala Thera proved that it belonged to him, the Gampaha Magistrate ordered to hand over the elephant calf to the Thera’s care.
Later Wildlife officials challenged the court order and consequently the court re-directed the officials to send the elephant calf to Uda Walawa elephant orphanage on the 18th of last month.
