It is embarrassing to apologise to India; A statement from UNP
UNP states that the government has acutely embarrassed the country by apologizing to the Indian premier regarding the article published on the Defence Ministry website.
Issuing an announcement, UNP stated that the incident shows the failure of external affairs within the country.
As an institute that represents the government, the website of the Defence Ministry should be maintained without politicization.
It is unacceptable to post unethical and severe criticism regarding other countries.
The announcement further added that the government should accept the consequences of the incident and reiterated the importance of maintaining government institutes in a professional manner.
The Defence Ministry website published an article regarding a letter sent by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha Jayaram to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tamil political parties in Tamil Nadu raised their strong protest against the article.
Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has informed Indian parliament that she will summon the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to inquire regarding the matter.
However, Army spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya stated during a media briefing held recently in Colombo, that the article did not cause any insult to the Indian Central government whatsoever.
