Signs of drought ending; scattered showers in several areas

The Met department stated that scattered showers were experienced within the past 24 hours in North, North Central, Uva and Eastern provinces where drought prevailed for nearly 3 months.

In addition, Western, Sabaragamu and Central provinces as well as Galle and Matara districts will experience intermittent showers.

Making an announcement, the Met Department added that showers may extend to North Western province.

During the past 24 hours certain areas in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Districts received a rainfall up to 10 to 20 millimeters.

However, the Director of the Irrigation Department’s Water Management Unit Janaki Meegastenna stated that water levels in the 72 reservoirs have reduced to 15 percent.
