Another student of Sabaragamuwa Uni arrested by TID
The Terrorism Investigation Department has arrested another student of the Sabaragamuwa University.
The arrested is a first year student from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages in the Sabaragamuwa University.
The student who was arrested had lodged a complaint at the police stating that a group assaulted him at the university hostel on the 03rd of August.
The Police says that investigations revealed that there were problems in the complaint which was lodged and the statement which was given by the student.
The TID said that information has revealed that the student had harmed himself with the intention of blaming another group, in order to create disharmony among the university students.
Police Media spokespersons office said the student was arrested to carry out further investigations.
Meanwhile yet another student was arrested few days ago by the TID stating that information had revealed a connection between this student and certain incidents which took place at the Sabaragamuwa University.
Later the police said that the student had close connections between the LTTE and was rehabilitated after the war.
Meanwhile minister of Higher Education S.B Dissanayake expressed his views regarding the arrest of the two students by the TID, at a function held in Dambulla recently.
However, issuing a statement the Inter-university students’ federation noted that they are against the arrest. They accused the officials of using the university premises for political purposes.
