Update: SLAF helicopter deployed to douse Knuckles fire
Sri Lanka Air Force has deployed a Mi-17 helicopter to douse a forest fire rapidly spreading through the Knuckles reserve.
The SLAF deployed the helicopter following a request from the Disaster Management Centre over the disaster.
Disaster Management centre said the fire occurred in Knuckles reserve yesterday and the fire has destroyed some 200 acres of land in the forest.

Fire in Nuckles forest reserve destroys 100 acres
Around 100 acres of land have been destroyed in a fire which erupted in the Nawanagala area in Ududumbara in the Knuckles reserve.
The Disaster Management Centre stated that the support of the Army has been sought in dousing the fire.
As a result of the dry weather conditions, several fires were reported but most of them are thought to be those triggered by human activity.
Deputy Media Director of the Disaster Management Centre Sarath Lal Kumara stated that 9 persons have been arrested so far.
Environmentalist Attorney at Law Jagath Gunawardana stated that persons involved in igniting fires in forests can be arrested.
