The Election Secretariat states the Uva Provincial Council election will cost nearly 200 million rupees.

A Secretariat spokesman said this money is allocated to hire services of police, postal, government printer as well as to pay overtime to government servants on election duty.

The department has grossly calculated that around 750 million rupees were spent to conduct the two previous elections in the Southern and Western Provinces.

Meanwhile police headquarters stated it has received 5 million rupees in order to remove cutouts, banners and posters that have been displayed illegally in the Uva Provincial Council limit.

At the same time, UNP handed over the declaration of asset of its candidates to the Election Commissioner this morning.

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya had told earlier that he would not facilitate the candidates those who do not submit their declaration of assets soon after the handing over of nominations.
