President Mahinda Rajapaksa today announced that Sri Lanka will provide US$ 1 million in financial assistance to Palestine. Meanwhile Slovakia has also decided to send humanitarian aid to Palestinians to relieve the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip.
The financial contribution of €20,000 from the Slovak Aid programme will be provided via the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The recent round of violence in the Gaza Strip that began on July 8 has claimed the lives of more than 1,900 Palestinians - mainly civilians - while around 10,000 Palestinians suffered injuries. Israel has reported the deaths of 67 people on its side, including three civilians.
