Why 1.4 million allocated to dig 14 feet well; disaster management ministry initiates investigations

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says his ministry will also initiate an investigation against the officials who allocated 1.4 million rupees to dig 14-foot well.

Representatives of Farmer Organizations disclosed this incident during a meeting held in Polonnaruwa with regard to the existing drought.

Minister Maithreepala Sirisena who presided the meeting questioned about the incident from relevant officials and ordered to submit him an immediate report on the incident.

Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera also expressed his views with regard to the incident during a media briefing held in Colombo today.

 Minister Amaraweera said 1.8 million people living in 14 districts are still braving the prevailing drought.
