As per the order issued by the Court of appeal sending back Pakistani asylum seekers has been temporarily put on hold.

This was following a petition filed by a Pakistani woman named Aneela Imran who is temporarily residing in Negombo.

The interim relief has been granted till the 29th when the state must come to court for argument of the case.

The order was obtained as Sri Lanka took action to deport them since the beginning of this month.

A spokesperson of the Immigration and Emigration Department says that 119 Pakistani nationals and 19 Afghan Nationals who had arrived in Sri Lanka seeking asylum have been deported so far.
