Services of several hospitals have been severely disrupted due to the trade union action staged by Junior staff of the health sector.

The junior staff representing All Island Suwa Seva Association commenced the continuous trade union action this morning based on several demands including salary increments.

Hospital junior staff representing the Joint Trade Union Committee also began a 2-day trade union action at 6.30 this morning.

Army and Navy officers have been deployed to carry out the services of several hospitals.

Meanwhile, the Joint Trade Union Committee is currently engaged in a 2-day trade union action based on 5 demands including promotions and salary increments concerning the junior staff.

The Convener of the committee T.H. Somaratne stated that they will also stage a protest march from Colombo National Hospital to the Presidential Secretariat.

Services of several main hospitals have been disrupted by the trade union action.

Director of Colombo National Hospital Doctor Anil Jasinghe stated that the services of Colombo National Hospital are carried out with the help of Civil Security forces.
