Update : Digambaran and Praba appointed as deputy ministers: Govet ministerial positions rise to 109 - video
Labour National Front Leader and Nuwara Eliya District MP P. Digambaram and Democratic People’s Congress Leader and Colombo district MP Prabha Ganeshan were sworn in as new deputy Ministers today before President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
MP Digambaram took oaths as deputy minister of National Languages and Social Integration while MP Prabha Ganeshan took oaths as Telecommunication and Communication Technology deputy minister.
After the swearing-in, Deputy Minister Prabha Ganeshan told our news team that with the new position, he will be able to serve the entire country.
With the new deputy ministry positions created today, the number of ministerial positions rose to 109.
There are 56 members of the present Cabinet of ministers including the President and the Prime Minister.
In addition, there are 10 Senior Ministers, 40 deputy ministers, and two subject ministers.
Out of 163 members of the ruling government, 56 still remain just parliamentarians.
23 UNP MPs who defected the party and joined the government are currently holding ministry positions.
