Heated situation at Southern PC
The southern provincial council was adjourned for 15 minutes due to a heated situation which arose between the government and opposition councillors.
This is the second time where such a situation occurred in the southern provincial council.
JVP councillor Nalin Hewage was posing a question to the chief minister
Shan Wijelal de Silva, when the provincial sports Minister
Weekasumana Weerasinghe, interrupted the JVP councillor saying that, no time could be wasted on unnecessary questions.
Thereafter a heated situation arose between the government and opposition councillors of the Southern Provincial council.
The two groups were engaged in name-calling when the chairman of the provincial council Somawansa Kodagoda decided to adjourn the meeting for 15 minutes.
When the chairman started expressing his views, JVP councillor Nalin Hewage climbed on to a table to protest.
