2 million in 14 district affected due to severe drought

1.3 million three-hundred and sixty-two thousand people have been affected by the drought prevailing in 14 districts.

Speaking to us the area residents of the drought hit areas said that even though showers were experienced in the areas, they were not sufficient.

National Disaster Management Centre said that residents of Monaragala, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Puttlam, Hambanthota and Jaffna districts have been severely affected.

Steps have been taken by Disaster Management Centre together with the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, to provide water to those affected using browsers.

Minister of Disaster Management Mahinda Amaraweera said that One-thousand Six-hundred million rupees have been allocated to provide the necessary facilities to those affected by the drought.
