The Indonesian police have beefed up security at the world’s largest Buddhist temple complex – Borobudur Viharaya after ISIS affiliated militants in Syria and Iraq threatened to launch an attack on the historical religious site.

The 9th century Mahayana Buddhist temple has been declared a UNESCO heritage site.

Meanwhile Bodu Bala Sena stated that the threat by ISIS militants should not be considered menial as Muslim extremists have launched similar attacks on different world’s Buddhist religious sites in the past.
