The treatment activities of government hospitals have reached crisis levels due to the continuous strike by the members of the Paramedical joint union federation.

A hospital spokesman said that they find it difficult to obtain essential drugs even to treat critical patients.

Although Osu Sala has been instructed to issue drugs to prescriptions written by government hospitals, a delay had occurred when essential drugs were obtained from Osu Sala to treat critical patient.

Ragama Teaching Hospital Director Dr.U.M.M. Samaranayake described the difficulties they face to obtain essential drugs for critical patients.

The strike is now continuing as two rounds of discussions between the strikers and the authorities failed yesterday.

Meanwhile Supplementary Medical Services Trade Union Joint Federation’s Media spokesman Janaka Nishantha said the members are ready to return to work immediately  after their demands are met.
