Patients are affected today as well due to Paramedics strike.
The hospital strike launched by the Supplementary Medical Services Trade Union Joint Federation has completed 76 hours.
The para medics launched the strike last Tuesday on 6 demands including a salary increase and the strike affected hospital functions such as X-Rays, Scans and laboratory tests.
The Most affected was issuing drugs to indoor patients.
The issuing of drugs to indoor patients has reached crisis levels after the strikers withdrew from emergency services with effect from 12 noon last Wednesday.
Meanwhile Health Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala has sent fax messages to all hospital directors asking them to appoint a staff committee, open stores and issue necessary drugs.
Colombo National Hospital Director Dr. Anil Jasinghe also said hospital functions have been affected due to the strike.
Speaking to our news team Health Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala requested the strikers to report for duty as soon as possible.
Meanwhile Supplementary Medical Services Trade Union Joint Federation’s General Secretary Saman Jayasekera said the strike will be extended to the other hospitals which were excluded at the launch of the strike.
They include The Castle Street hospital for women, the Maharagama Cancer Hospital and the Lady Ridgeway hospital for children.
