Elections Commissioner has focused his attention on the allegations made regarding the involvement of government officers for election related activities.
When inquired by our news team, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya stated that the Elections Secretariat has already received several complaints.
The government officers who engage in election activities through trade unions are not entitled to receive allowances, approval of leave or use of state property.
Election commissioner reiterated that if a government officer does not engage in election propaganda under the influence of a trade union or the government, the relevant factions do not have the right to take action against him.
Meanwhile, the election secretariat has received 88 complaints regarding violation of election rules thus far.
15 among them are related to involving government officers in politics while 14 complaints are related to violence.
