The department of fisheries says that they were unable to enter into any agreements regarding the violation of maritime borders during the discussion held on the 29th about the Indu- Sri Lanka fishermen’s problem.

The Director General of the department Nimal Hettiarachchi said that Sri Lankan government’s strong stance on the breach of maritime boarders remains the same.

A special discussion was held in New-Delhi on the 29th between the Sri Lankan and Indian diplomats, regarding the fishermen’s issue.

During the discussions a long-term proposal was presented by the Indian representatives to address the issue.

At the discussions the Sri Lankan delegates have reiterated that they will continue to take robust actions regarding the breach of maritime borders.

The Director General of the department Nimal Hettiarachchi further said that India also maintain the same stance and until a long-term plan is in place, no short term agreements were made regarding the issue.
