Police stated that the retired Army Officer who set himself on fire in front of the Colpetty police station yesterday has succumbed to his injuries.

The victim before the self immolation had stated that his actions were to protest against former UN High Commissioner Navaneedan Pillai.

The victim was identified as a 72-year old resident of Kalalgoda in Pannipitiya.

He had retired from the Army after serving for 21 years.
