Minister Vijithamuni de Soyza suspends a micro credit scheme.-Video
A micro credit scheme meant for small entrepreneurs of Senapatiya in Bibile has been suspended by Wildlife Minister Vijith Vijithamuni de Soyza.
The minister decided to halt the scheme after the residents complained to him that officials have granted the loans only to their henchmen.
The residents stopped the minister while he was on his way to Moneragala around 11 this morning, and told him about the injustice occurred to them.
Speaking to residents, the minister said he was informed by Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa to implement the loan scheme in the area.
In that backdrop, he questioned how the divisional secretary of Medagama and the Moneragala District Secretary implemented the scheme without his knowledge.
Suspending the micro credit scheme, the minister said loan schemes of this nature would be implemented transparently through divisional secretaries.
Having suspended the loan scheme the minister ordered the officials to retrieve the credit that is already released.
During the conversation between the minister and the residents, the two Samurdhi officers arrived at the scene.
They said they implemented the loan scheme today on an order issued by a top authority.
